Part 4: Worked Problems & Exam Traps

★ Telling Time in French for Airline Schedules

  • 08:30   ⟹  \implies Il est huit heures et demie. (or huit heures trente in 24-hr schedule).
  • 14:15   ⟹  \implies Il est quatorze heures quinze. (or deux heures et quart in the afternoon).
  • 19:45   ⟹  \implies Il est vingt heures moins le quart. (or dix-neuf heures quarante-cinq).

TU Exam Trap: In spoken and written French hospitality, never greet an international tourist with "Tu"! Always use "Vous" (Bonjour Madame, comment allez-vous?). Using "Tu" with guests indicates lack of professional hospitality breeding and loses marks on oral exams.

Students lose marks here because they greet an international tourist with \Tu.
