Course Description
:This course provides a fundamental and contemporary understanding of Organizational Behavior (OB) and Human Resource Management (HRM). The Organizational Behavior section focuses on understanding human behavior at individual and group levels in organizational settings. It covers concepts such as perception, personality, motivation, leadership, communication, diversity, power, and organizational politics. The Human Resource Management section emphasizes the effective management and development of human resources in organizations. It includes human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment, training, compensation, performance management, and contemporary HRM practices. The course also introduces emerging issues such as digital HRM, gig workforce, artificial intelligence in HRM, flexible work practices, and Green HRM with reference to Nepalese organizations.
Course Objective
:After completing this course, students will be able to: 1) Explain the fundamental concepts, theories, and importance of organizational behavior in organizations. 2) Analyze individual and group behavior, motivation, leadership, communication, diversity, an d organizational politics in workplace settings. 3) Apply organizational behavior concepts to improve interpersonal relationships and organizational effectiveness. 4) Explain the major concepts, functions, and practices of human resource management. 5) Analyze huma n resource planning, recruitment, training, compensation, and performance management practices in organizations. 6) Understand contemporary HRM issues and apply HRM concepts in Nepalese organizational contexts.
Course Contents:

Unit 1. Introduction to Organizational Behavior
- Organizational behavior: concept, nature, importance
- challenges and opportunities of organizational behavior
- Emerging issues in organizational behavior
- Models of organizational behavior.
- Learning Outcomes: Explain the concept, nature, importance, challenges, opportunities, emerging issues, and models of organizational behavior and analyze their relevance in organizational settings.
Unit 2. Understanding Individual Behavior
- Individual perception: meaning, process, affecting factors
- perceptual bias and errors
- perception and individual decision making
- Personality and individual differences: meaning of personality, determinants of personality, big five personality model.
- Learning Outcomes: Describe individual perception, perceptual biases, personality, and individual differences, and analyze their influence on decision -making and workplace behavior in organizations.
Unit 3. Motivation and Leadership
- Motivation: meaning, need, Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
- Theories of motivation: Need theory, goal setting theory, equity theory, expectancy theory
- Organizational justice: concept, types
- Leaders and Leadership: concept, leader’s traits, General understandin g of leadership approaches: transformational and transactional leadership, charismatic and visionary leadership, servant leadership, contingency leadership.
- Learning Outcomes: Explain motivation concepts, organizational justice, leadership traits, and major leadership approaches, and analyze their role in influencing employee behavior and organizational effectiveness.
Unit 4. Workforce Diversity and Inclusion
- Organizational diversity: concept , reasons, benefits, challenges
- M ulti-generational workforce in workplace
- Differences between deep level of diversity and surface level of diversity
- D iversity practices in Nepalese organizations
- Inclusion in Nepal: provisions, practice, impacts.
- Learning Outcomes: Describe workforce diversity and inclusion practices, differentiate between surface-level and deep -level diversity, and analyze diversity -related opportunities and challenges in organizational settings.
Unit 5. Power and Politics in Organizations
- Power in an organization: Concept, bases of power, dynamism
- Influence tactics: concept, application
- Politics in an organization: perceived organizational politics, political behavior, political skills
- Functional and dysfunctional organizational politics.
- Learning Outcomes: Explain organizational power, influence tactics, political behavior, political skills, and the functional and dysfunctional aspects of organizational politics in workplace settings

Unit 6. Introduction
- Human Resource Management: concept, characteristics, functions, hard and soft approaches of HRM
- Human resource as a source of competitive advantage
- Outcomes of human resource management: quality of work life, productivity, readiness for change
- Contemporary issues in human resource management in Nepalese organizations.
- Learning Outcomes: Explain the concepts, characteristics, functions, approaches, outcomes, and contemporary issues of human resource management and analyze t he strategic role of human resources in organizations.
Unit 7. Organization, Management and Human Resource Planning
- Job-related terminology: task, job, position, and occupation
- Concept of Organization and management, process of Organization and management, components of Organization and management and their concepts and needs, practice of organization and management survey, Human resource planning: concept, process
- Role of human resource in formation system in human resource planning
- Human resource planning practices in Nepalese business organizations.
- Learning Outcomes: Describe job-related terminology, organization and management concepts, organizational processes, and human resource plann ing practices, and analyze the role of HR information systems in organizational planning.
Unit 8. Recruitment and Selection
- Recruitment: concept, methods
- Selection: concept, process
- selection tests
- Practice of recruitment and selection in diverse Nepalese organizations Learning Outcomes: Explain recruitment and selection concepts, methods, processes, and selection tests, and analyze recruitment and selection practices in Nepalese organizations.
Unit 9. Human Resource Development
- Human resource development: concept, objectives, needs
- Difference between training and development
- Types of training
- Determining competency gap and training needs
- Training and development practices in Nepalese business organizations.
- Learning Outcomes: Describe human resource development concepts, training methods, competency gaps, and training needs, and analyze training and development practices in organizations.
Unit 10. Contemporary Issues in Human Resource Management
- Emerging trends in human resource management
- Digitalization of human resource activities, Remote work and flexible work practices
- Gig workforce
- Ethical human resource management
